AI workflow

An AI workflow is a repeatable sequence of steps in which AI carries out defined tasks on a set of documents, such as applying a playbook and producing a report, with human review built into the sequence.

What it means for a UK law firm

An AI workflow differs from asking a chatbot a question because the steps, instructions and output format are fixed in advance. That makes results more consistent between fee earners and easier to supervise.

An AI workflow should state where human review happens and what the reviewer must check. A workflow that runs from start to finish without review moves the risk rather than removing it.

Example

Illustrative scenario

For each new commercial lease, a property team runs the same workflow: AI extracts the key terms against the team's lease playbook, a trainee checks each term against the cited clause, and a solicitor approves the report before it is sent to the client.

How Chancery handles it

In Chancery you choose a matter or specific files, pick one or more playbooks and add any instructions. Chancery returns a structured report for each playbook with numbered citations to the source documents, and every workflow output passes through Chancery Verify before it can be relied on; see Playbooks.
