Purpose-built legal intelligence for UK law firms.
Why we built Chancery
We saw UK law firms stuck between two bad options.
On one side, enterprise AI tools designed for Magic Circle firms — powerful, but priced at six figures, requiring months of implementation, and built for organisations with dedicated technology teams.
On the other side, practice management software with AI features bolted on as an afterthought — affordable, but offering little more than a basic search bar wrapped in marketing language.
Mid-market firms — the 20 to 200 lawyer practices that make up the backbone of the UK legal sector — were left with neither option working for them.
We built Chancery to fill that gap. A legal intelligence platform with a legal assistant, precedent intelligence, and matter intelligence — plus practice area modules for the specialist work that defines your firm. Starting with Private Client.
Our principles
AI should cite its sources
Every answer Chancery gives is backed by a reference to a specific page, clause, or section in your documents. If the answer is not in your documents, Chancery says so. We believe lawyers deserve tools that prove their work, not tools that ask you to trust them.
Your clients’ data deserves proper isolation
Every firm’s data is kept completely separate — dedicated storage, a dedicated search index, and database-level access controls that prevent cross-firm access. Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We do not use your documents to train AI models. Security is not an add-on. It is how the platform works.
Mid-market firms deserve the same tools as the top 20
The capability gap between large and mid-market firms should be about experience and expertise — not about who can afford the technology. We price Chancery so that any firm can access the same AI document intelligence that the largest practices in the country use.
Security is architecture, not a marketing page
We do not bolt security on after building the product. Row-Level Security, data isolation, and defence-in-depth are foundational decisions made before the first line of application code was written. Security is how the platform works, not something we added to win a compliance checkbox.
The team behind Chancery
Chancery is built by a team with experience across legal technology, enterprise software, and information security. We understand the regulatory environment UK law firms operate in, and we build for it from day one.
