What it means for a UK law firm
A document risk assessment usually rates each risk red, amber or green, often shortened to “RAG”, so that a client or partner can see the most serious issues first. This use of RAG is unrelated to retrieval-augmented generation in AI.
A document risk assessment is different from the firm-wide risk assessment that firms in scope of the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 must carry out. A document risk assessment concerns the risks in a particular matter's documents, not the firm's exposure to money laundering.
A document risk assessment should let a reader trace each rating to the clause it relies on, and should record who set or changed each rating.
Example
Illustrative scenario
Before a lease renewal, a property team prepares a risk register for the client. Each entry names the clause, rates the risk, records the recommended action, and is closed once the point has been negotiated.
How Chancery handles it
Chancery can generate a risk register from the documents in a matter. Each risk is rated red, amber or green, categorised and tracked from New to Closed; you can add your own risks alongside and export the report as Word or PDF. See Playbooks and risk assessment.
