What it means for a UK law firm

Contract review with AI usually means applying a playbook to a contract: the AI flags clauses that meet or depart from the firm's standards and suggests changes. The solicitor decides which issues matter for the client and which changes to propose.

Contract review with AI is easiest to check when each finding points to the clause it refers to, so the reviewer can read the clause in context. Defined terms, schedules and cross-references can change what a clause means, and the reviewer has to follow them.

Example

Illustrative scenario

A solicitor reviewing a software licence for a client runs the firm's licensing playbook. The review flags an uncapped indemnity and a right for the supplier to change the service on its own. The solicitor reads both clauses together with the definitions they use, and proposes amendments as tracked changes.

How Chancery handles it

With Chancery for Word, you choose your playbooks and review the document in front of you. Each finding explains the issue, recommends a fix and highlights the text it refers to, and you can apply the fix as a tracked change or add it as a comment; see Drafting and Playbooks.
